GIS ENGINEERING, LLC WELCOMES CHARLES CAMILLO AS DIRECTOR OF FEDERAL SERVICES

Baton Rouge, LA – GIS Engineering, LLC is pleased to announce the addition of Charles Camillo as Director of Federal Services, effective June 2, 2025. In this role, Charles will serve as a senior advisor to GIS’s federal division, playing a key role in the company’s strategic expansion into the Federal market, as well as into emerging markets across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.

Charles Camillo brings over three decades of distinguished service and expertise in engineering policy, federal programs, and strategic public engagement. Most recently, he served as the Executive Director of the Mississippi River Commission and Executive Assistant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mississippi Valley Division, where he played a critical role in shaping national water resource strategy, policy, and communication.

A CAREER MARKED BY RECOGNITION AND ACHIEVEMENT

Since joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1993, Charles has held several senior roles, including Executive Director of the Mississippi River Commission, Executive Assistant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Mississippi Valley Division, Special Assistant to Honorable R.D. James (Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works) in the Pentagon, Congressional Liaison, and Historian. Over his career, he has provided critical guidance during major events, including Hurricane Katrina and the historic 2011 Mississippi River Flood, authoring key strategic documents and serving as an expert witness for the U.S. Department of Justice.

His numerous accolades include:

  • Superior Civilian Service Award (twice awarded)
  • Commander’s Award for Civilian Service (three-time recipient)
  • Ernest P. Blankenship Professional of the Year (2011)
  • Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, presented by Maj. Gen. Rick Kaiser (2019) and Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Hon. R.D. James (2020)
  • Recipient of the prestigious De Fleury Medal, honoring exceptional contributions to Army Engineer excellence

AN ACCOMPLISHED AUTHOR AND THOUGHT LEADER

Charles is also an accomplished author, having published Divine Providence: The 2011 Flood in the Mississippi River & Tributaries Project, which was later translated into Mandarin by the Chinese Water Institute. His 2004 historical work, Upon Their Shoulders, commemorated the 125th anniversary of the Mississippi River Commission.
