bayou terrebonne lock structure

The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government (TPCG) recently constructed a new miter gate 400 ft. upstream (north) of the existing sector gate on Bayou Terrebonne to create a lock system.
The new lock system provides continuous access for marine vessels passing through the area when the downstream floodgate is closed in effort to prevent flooding in the habitable regions of the upper Bayou Terrebonne watershed. Sea level Construction, Inc. served as the prime contractor for this project, to which they constructed a new miter gate structure consisting of two (2) steel double leaf gates with a 56 ft. clear opening, 400+ feet of steel sheet pile wall braced with battered HP piles, bank line stabilization, access walkways, control house, and backup generator unit. The new lock structure is a fully automated system with the controls located within the newly constructed control house, and the hydraulic power unit that powers both miter gates is housed in an elevated pre-engineered metal building adjacent to the miter gate.
